About Morocco Concentrated Solar Power Plant
Ouarzazate Solar Power Station (OSPS), also called Noor Power Station (نور, Arabic for light) is a solar power complex and auxiliary diesel fuel system located in the Drâa-Tafilalet region in Morocco, 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from Ouarzazate town, in Ghessat rural council area. At 510 MW, it is the world's largest concentrated.
The project was developed bywith the help of the Spanish consortium TSK-- and is the first in a series of planned developments at the Ouarzazate Solar Complex by the Moroccan Agency for.
The facility lies in Southern Morocco, near the ancient fortified town , near .
Noor II CSP is the second phase of the Ouarzazate Solar Power Station. It is a 200CSP solar plant using parabolic troughs. It has a seven hour storage capacity. It covers an area of 680 hectares (1,680 acres) and is expected to supply 600 GWh per year.
Noor IV is a 72 MW which was completed in 2018. The total investment in this project is 750 million MAD or about 83 million USD.
Ouarzazate Solar Power Station (OSPS) – Phase 1, also referred to as Noor I CSP, has an installed capacity of 160 . It was connected to the Moroccan power grid on 5 February 2016.It covers 450 hectares (1,112 acres) and is expected to deliver 370per.
Noor III CSP is the third part of the Ouarzazate Solar Power Station. Noor 3 is a different design, the mirrors are mounted horizontally on platforms which are supported by ten metre columns. Each platform is roughly the size of a tennis court. The panels follow.
Water consumption for the Ouarzazate Noor complex is estimated at 2.5 to 3 million mper year for one wet-cooling project (Noor I) and two dry-cooling projects (Noor II and III). The water is sourced from the Mansour Eddahbi dam via pipeline.

6 FAQs about [Morocco Concentrated Solar Power Plant]
Will Morocco make history with a solar power plant?
Morocco is poised to make history soon — when the first phase of one of the world’s largest concentrated solar power plants starts generating electricity. When fully operational, it will produce enough energy for more than one million Moroccans, with possibly extra power to export to Europe.
What is Morocco's largest solar power plant?
Morocco also built the Noor-Ouarzazate complex, the world's largest concentrated solar power plant, an enormous array of curved mirrors spread over 3,000 hectares (11.6 sq miles) which concentrate the Sun's rays towards tubes of fluid, with the hot liquid then used to produce power.
What is Morocco's solar energy project?
It is Morocco’s first utility-scale solar energy complex and a critical step in the Moroccan Solar Energy Program, which aims to install 2 GW of solar power by 2020. The project underlines the country’s determination to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, turn to increased use of renewable energy, and move towards a low carbon development strategy.
Is Morocco a solar superpower?
Located on the edge of the Sahara desert, in an area famous for a picturesque landscape, the Noor-Ouarzazate power complex is putting Morocco on the map as a solar superpower. It is Morocco’s first utility-scale solar energy complex and a critical step in the Moroccan Solar Energy Program, which aims to install 2 GW of solar power by 2020.
How much energy will a Moroccan solar plant produce?
When fully operational, the plant will produce enough energy for more than one million Moroccan households. Inaugurated officially today by His Majesty Mohammed VI of Morocco, the solar plant underlines the country’s determination to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, use more renewable energy, and move towards low carbon development.
Will Morocco build a solar power station in Ouarzazate?
The Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy invited expressions of interest in the design, construction, operation, maintenance and financing of the first of the five planned solar power stations, the 500 MW complex in the southern town of Ouarzazate, that includes both PV and CSP. Construction officially began on 10 May 2013.
